Dialight and Maser Attending Australasian Oil & Gas Expo 2009 Jan 09
Maser alongside Dialight will be exhibiting at Australasian Oil and Gas (AOG) 2009 expo in Perth, Western Australia from 17th February to 19th February.
The AOG is the premier oil and gas industry exhibiting in Australia, it is held every 2 years and it is the largest Oil and Gas expo in the Southern Hemisphere.
Dialight will be show casing its wide range of specialised LED lighting products which are perfect for hazardous areas such as the Safesite range which are designed exclusively for hazardous locations. SafeSite incorporates the latest LED technology with proprietary optics to achieve area lighting comparable with traditional light sources. By focusing light where it is needed, SafeSite is the most efficient light source available for hazardous area lighting applications.
Last year Rio Tinto America replace traditional high-pressure sodium, metal halide and florescent lighting fixtures with the new SafeSite and LEDBright fixtures to achieve a better, whiter grade of lighting with an instant “On” feature so they can be used as needed.
Doug Woehler, product manager at Dialight, says, “The emergence of LED technology designed specifically for hazardous environments means that companies like Rio Tinto Energy America can use SafeSite to make energy and maintenance cost savings without compromising on their lighting needs. In some environments where coal dust can create a potentially explosive atmosphere, traditional lighting cannot be installed. SafeSite provides a new, safe option to light these areas.”
The first of its kind, SafeSite is designed to replace 75-250 watt Mercury Vapor Hi-Bay Area lights utilising Hi Flux LEDs. Users of LEDs can reduce their energy consumption by up to 90% from traditional incandescent fittings.
The Safe Site Series are manufactured by Dialight in the USA and supplied locally in Australia and New Zealand by Maser Communications who are the exclusive distributor.
Dialight will be at Stand M23 from the 17th February to 19th February.
Multiple Ways to Save Energy with LED's September 08
Switching to white LED lighting from conventional incandescent light bulbs, HID (high intensity discharge) or fluorescent lighting can bring big improvements in radically reduced maintenance and improved energy efficiency for many organisations
LED’s not only have minimum to zero maintenance needs but also organizations can also benefit from their lower energy needs. At Dialight their LED luminaires are warranted for 5 years and at 90W can replace a 150W HID light, saving 40% on energy. Being semiconductor-based they’re built for switching off and on, unlike HID and fluorescent lights, so you save even more power by avoiding the need for 24/7 lighting, being able to turn the LEDs off when there’s no one there. It makes them ideal for integrating with energy saving controls and also substantially extends
their lifespan.
But that’s not all they deliver and many of these additional benefits become particularly significant if you’re operating in what can be classed as a hazardous environment. These include, for example, areas that handle fuel, utility plants, paint shops, dusty environments or processing plants.
Dialight manufactures an LED luminaire called SafeSite™ specifically for such hazardous locations. As a solid state device with a very robust housing manufactured to UL Class I Division 2 standards, it’s virtually impervious to shock and vibration, making re-lamping costs a thing of the past in these demanding environments. Its lower voltage means it’s also safer to use in combustible atmospheres and produces less heat output for the air-conditioning to contend with. LEDs’ lower operating temperature even brings a further benefit for wet-wash environments where the impact of cold water would shatter a conventional light bulb.
Another great benefit of LED’s is when it’s finally time to replace them, LEDs are safe and easy to recycle, as they contain no mercury or other hazardous materials.

Dialight LED's - New Industrial & Commerical Options June 08
Thanks to the rapid development of LED lighting, solutions for a wide range of highly demanding commercial and industrial applications are now streaming onto the market. These alternatives to fluorescent and high intensity discharge (HID) lighting are safer, more efficient, longer lasting and have lower maintenance costs, says David Sims of Maser Communications. Maser is the Australasian agent for US LED lighting manufacturer Dialight, a company with decades of experience in applied LED technology.
Applications
Sims says Dialight has launched two principal types of LED alternatives for conventional industrial and commercial luminaries targeting fluorescents and HID low bay lighting fixtures. There are wide ranging industrial and commercial applications which can benefit from these new Dialight LED lighting alter-natives, says Sims. “They are better suited to food preparation areas because they’re an ultra-low maintenance, waterproof and washable lighting solution that does not contain glass which can contaminate food and packaging if there is a breakage. “And when it comes to power generation and heavy industrial manufacturing, Dialight luminaries offer vibration-proof, impact-resistant lighting which does not suffer the drawbacks of conventional lighting. “Many other commercial and industrial workplaces including hazardous areas such as petrochemical, oil, gas and mining workplaces can gain from our intrinsically safe, low energy, low heat LED lighting solutions,” he says.
Savings and safety
“Not only do Dialight LED replacements for fluorescent and HID light fittings provide end-users with considerable maintenance and power cost savings, they also produce less carbon emissions because they last tens of thousands of hours longer. They also contain fewer harmful chemicals such as mercury and are much more environmentally friendly than conventional light sources,” says Sims.
However, power savings are not the only important aspect of LED lighting. In many sites it is both costly and difficult to maintain lighting. With the extremely long life of LEDs there is not only less risk of accidents in the workplace posed by accessing lighting for lamp replacements, but also less cost for hiring access equipment required to undertake such maintenance.” LED lighting can be switched on and off whenever you want to,” says Sims. “Not only do LEDs come up to full bright-ness straight away, they do not require a cooling-down period like HID lamps. This HID lamp cooling period can produce dangerous situations especially around certain industrial processes when areas have been left in darkness after the power has failed momentarily. Another LED advantage is that they are not depleted by frequent switching like fluorescents.”
Development
LEDs are now coming to the forefront of lighting technology for a number of reasons and the research and development into LED lighting reflects this. As product manager for Dialight, Sims says the company has been a leader in this respect for a number of years. “Dialight has developed and manufactured LED products since their inception over 35 years ago. In recent years, it has been more involved in LED lighting, manufacturing components including precision lighting optics and drivers for its lighting products. “Besides Dialight fluorescent and HID lighting alternatives, the company also makes luminaries for highly demanding applications such as IP rated obstruction and hazard beacons for use in hazardous areas and for airport warning lighting. “Dialight has shipped over 23 million LEDs in lighting products and from its early days has supplied the world’s largest base of installed LED traffic lights,” says Sims. “That is why we at Maser believe Dialight LED products are proven to be efficient and durable lighting solutions that will benefit a wide range of industrial and commercial businesses.”

Brand new Generation 3 Medium Intensity Beacon 2 May 2007
Dialight has launched a new LED based steady burn red beacon, the D264 series, designed for use on tall buildings, towers and other structures requiring Obstruction lights. The New D264 beacon replaces the D164 as the third generation of Dialight’s beacons showing reduced weight, size and power consumption. This beacon meets the requirements of ICAO and is certified to the more stringent requirements of the FAA. The D264 is designed to minimise light pollution, with a cutting edge optical design that limits the light output to where it is needed.
Advances in LED technology and improved design of the beacon's lens and reflector, mean that the new D264 medium intensity red beacon brings benefits including high visibility with a power consumption of just 48 watts. The beacon weighs just 14 Kg and is also smaller in size than its Dialight predecessor.
The D264 achieves these benefits by utilising state of the art high flux producing more light per watt than previously used LED's and a technologically advanced optical design, which minimises wasted light by focusing all the available light to where it is needed giving the additional benefit of reduced light pollution.
The beacon is also designed to withstand the most severe environments operating temperature range for -55 to + 55 degree C and the beacon can withstand conditions including direct sunlight, wind blown rain, wind speeds of 200 Km/h and high humidity. This product has a five year performance warranty as standard with a much longer life expectancy.
The D264 is available for use across USA, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia and complies with latest ICAO requirements
Dialight's existing range of LED beacons is already in widespread use worldwide for applications including telecommunication towers, broadcasting towers and power station chimneys.
