Peak Network and Efficiency achieved with Belden DataTuff Industrial Ethernet Cables
Over the past five years or so, Ethernet has moved increasingly from the office environment into the industrial world – mainly for control and automation applications. But the two environments couldn’t differ more: the office environment offers its cabling system a relatively safe harbor and should a signal transmission fault occur, retries are generally acceptable. The industrial world presents a different reality: the cabling system can be integral to a harsh and hazardous environment and yet there’s no margin for error since the cables typically carry signals between devices
to make events happen on a very exacting schedule.
To ensure successful Ethernet signal transmissions in an industrial environment you need high performance cables designed specifically for the environment. Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Cat 5e UTP Ethernet cable just can’t stand up. It is quite fragile when compared to an industrial-grade cable, meaning that any number of stresses and challenges encountered in the industrial environment could result in one of the classic failure models: catastrophic failure, intermittent operation, incremental failure and degradation of performance. The result could be a loss of data, process downtime or a drop in the safety level of your operation. Belden’s answer is to offer a complete range
of high quality, high reliability DataTuff® Industrial Ethernet cables that have been designed for industrial use and tested using state-of-the-art testing equipment. Belden DataTuff cables are also field-proven relative to exceptional day-in/day-out performance.
So, even if your cabling system is exposed to the following conditions you can turn to Belden for the right solution:
• Oil, sunlight and gasoline
• Temperature variations
• Abrasion, crushing and burial
• Flexing
• Presence of EMI/RFI (electromagnetic interference or radio frequency interference)
• MSHA mining approval
• Red jackets designating safety network

The Fastest Way to Lower Cable Installation Costs
Maser presents Dura-Lines revolutionary pre-lubricated TorandoPlus Duct, specially designed to facilitate faster cable installation by up to 318%.
The revolutionary design of TornadoPlus* duct creates an air cushion tornado effect, imparting an increased pulling force on the cable. Since the cable rides on the air cushion (and does not touch the duct) the friction force is greatly reduced. This enables about two times longer cable blowing per operation, compared to conventional smoothwall ducts. Besides lowering cable installation costs, it ensures a faster return on investment.
Features and Benefits
Consistent and faster blowing speed
Much longer blowable lengths in each shot
Decreased amount of Figure-8 construction during blowing, saving time while reducing chances of cables getting entangled
Enable usage of longer cable lengths/drums, hence lesser splices
Improved daily output of blowing (up to double) resulting in faster network rollouts
Lower stress on fiber
Quicker return on investment
30% lesser pulling force required than in manual cable install
Integral detectable cable tracer wire is optional – no need for separate additional wire or tape
Any colour & custom printing available to order
Tomorrows technology you can use today!

Maser solves cable degradation issue for Queensland oil refinery
Maser Communications (Australia) have supplied a series of specialist steel wire armoured cables to a Queensland Oil Refinery. After suffering through issues associated with cable degradation, the end user outlined their requirement for a robust cable construction and Maser was quick to identify a steel wire armoured solution that would provide the necessary mechanical protection.
“The Australian market has become accustomed to steel wire armoured cables being available locally for instrumentation, power and control applications” says Greg Terry, Maser Projects and Contracts Manager. “When it comes to requirements outside this common group, the market perception is that solutions are only available on long lead-times or with excessive MOQ’s.
This is not the case at all and in many instances Maser are supplying as little as 305 metres within 2 weeks for common protocols including Category 5e, Category 6 and RS-485, right through to industrial protocols like Fieldbus, Profibus and Devicenet”
Maser understand that harsh cable environments extend past the instrumentation level and through partnerships with the world’s leading cable manufacturers, Maser can offer an armoured solution for a wide variety of applications.

Maser DEKABON - The only choice for lead free cable
With growing concern over the environmental and health issues related to lead, end users are searching for a responsible alternative to lead sheathed cables without comprising the long term reliability of their cable. This concern has led a Victorian Oil Refinery to DEKABON, Dekoron’s innovative and more environmentally friendly alternative to lead sheath technology. “The refinery wanted to source a lead free cable and were surprised when Maser offered a relatively in-expensive solution” says Maser Communications General Manager, Matt Young. “The client had the impression that environmental responsibility would come at a cost however DEKABON provides economic benefits beginning from the cost of the cable and continuing through to installation. When you consider that DEKABON is available as instrumentation, control or thermocouple cable and can be ordered in as little as 300m, you would have to ask why any end user is still using a lead sheathed product”.
The DEKABON cable design is based on the use of the hermetically sealed patented copolymer coated Aluminium tape, bonded to a polymer over-sheath. Main features and benefits:
Corrosion resistance – Patented co-polymer, which forms a critical part of the bonded or laminate construction, prevents aluminium from chemical attack, prevents corrosion and provides extended service life versus bare metal sheaths.
Mechanical properties – DEKABON technology, Co-polymer – Aluminium – Polymer Sheath, combines the properties of the different materials and generates a synergistic effect where strength of shielding tape is combined with flexibility of polymer.

Dekoron cable efficient and effective for plant operations
Dekoron Wire & Cable are the innovators in Instrumentation. Technology to improve signal transmission, shielding, and custom designed cables have
allowed Dekoron to bring to market products required to effectively and efficiently run plant operations.
between sensors, analysers and control rooms. Dekoron innovations in insulation and shielding provide protection for cables from electronic noise
and interference that could interrupt accurate information being transferred through the plant.
Dekoron Thermocouple extension cables utilise a solid alloy wire conductor in applications requiring precise temperature measurement and control for
process plants.
Dekoron control cables are essential to maintain a quality control system in harsh environments of process control. Dekoron control cables maintain
system integrity and durability in challenging environments and applications.
Specialty Cables for extreme applications, which include fire resistant, cold weather, dual armor, circuit integrity, armored fieldbus and zero
halogen are also developed and manufactured.
Cables with up to 100 conductors or conductor groups and continuous lengths of 10,000 feet are also possible. All conductor groups can be
shielded against electromagnetic interference by the use of propershields and drains.
Materials are sourced from high quality, reliable and competitive materials. Inventory is maintained or sourced through short-lead times and
supplier stock programmes.
Thermoset and thermoplastic materials are used for cable insulation. To assure clean and accurate signals back to the control room, aluminum, copper, and bronze shields are applied to individual and groupings of cable. An additional layer of protection of armor is added depending on the applications. This includes Served Wire Armor (SWA) for physical protection where cut through resistance is necessary, and Interlock Armor (aluminum or galvanised) for mechanical and cable core protection.
Dekabon Moisture/Chemical Barrier is applied to provide chemical, crush and vapour resistance and protection against moisture. The addition of
Dekabon ensures cable suitability for direct burial applications and abrasive backfilling. Paired with a drain wire, Dekabon also acts as an
electrostatic shield which provides protection against lighting.
Thermoset and thermoplastic jackets are used for first and second jackets within the cable. Jackets can be easily removed with a nylon
ripcord for field stripback and terminations.
All Dekoron products are manufactured to high quality standards.
All cables are subjected to electrical inspection after twisting, bunching, jacketing and armoring.
Cable sheaths to protect against aggressive chemicals
Dekoron is promoting a range of cables which can be furnished with ‘armour’, protecting them from harsh environments in the oil and gas industry.
The cable sheaths or ‘armour’ were designed to answer the problem of the permeability of existing plastic cable sheaths on the market due to humidity and aggressive chemicals.
“Penetration of these elements to the core of the cable compromise its overall lifetime performance. A conventional cable core protection against above mentioned elements is generally achieved by applying a lead sheath,” said the company.
Dekoron’s DEKABON’s cable constructions can be furnished with armouring options including served wire armour and interlock armour for additional physical protection.
The DEKABON technology is scalable and has been applied to instrument, control and thermocouple extension cables, says the company, also
claiming that the technology has already been used by all major oil companies in their refineries and petrochemical facilities for over 25 years.
The technology is now available locally for the oil refining and petrochemical industry.
Dekoron is officially registered with the “Fieldbus Foundation” as approved for their foundation fieldbus type cables. Dekoron Wire & Cable, Inc. has a solid reputation for high quality products manufactured with the shortest, reliable lead-times in the industry. Dekoron's inventory management, coupled with their strategicallylocated manufacturing and distribution network provide customers with the fastest response time in the industry.
